Immunizations, also known as vaccinations, are a vital source to live a life free from infectious diseases and illness. The importance of immunization has been emphasized time and again. This is because of the numerous benefits which they offer to us.
Immunization is a simple and effective way to protect your child from serious diseases like Whooping cough, measles, pneumococcal disease, chickenpox, tetanus, mumps, polio, and hepatitis which may cause serious health problems and sometimes prove fatal.
World Health Organisation has proved that vaccination prevents more than 2.5 million child deaths every year. Even, the professional medical organizations (such as the Canadian Pediatric Society and the College of Family Physicians of Canada) recommend immunization. Moreover, it has been found that if immunization of a child doesn't take place, it leads to diseases being spread to other children who are either too young to be vaccinated or to people with weakened immune systems.
That’s why Rotary and United Nations have also been doing awareness about the importance of the same and have helped in immunization to those sections of the society who are underprivileged. Eradication of Polio is one such example of Rotary’s work to help the community to be disease-free.
Opening the pages of the history of immunization, we get to know that the first true vaccine discovered was for Smallpox which killed nearly 300 to 500 million people around the world. There has been some confusion and misunderstandings about vaccines. But a vaccine is a way to build up your body’s natural immunity to a disease by providing a build-up of antibodies before you get sick.
Everyone needs vaccines at one or other stage of life. Thus it is well said that, "Immunization is the most cost-effective way to live a disease-free life"
